Shalapatova on the incident in Yambol: It shocks me that we have two children who are unknown to any institution

What shocks me the most is that we have two children who are absolutely unknown to any institution. Many people do not know that the second one exists, and no one knows about the first one that he lives at risk. This was commented on bTV by Ivanka Shalapatova, former Minister of Social Affairs, regarding the incident with a 3-year-old child on the edge of a terrace in Yambol, who was left alone with a 1-year-old child in the apartment.

She drew attention to the fact that these are key years for the development of children.

„How is it that after there is such a risk, our only alternative is for the child to go outside the family environment? This means that there is no prior work with the family. In Bulgaria, an adequate policy for children and there are no families“, she explained.

Now the children are placed in two foster families: “This is a bad measure. At this young age and with the poor care of the parents, the children should be together. The children have affection for each other, separating them is not a good solution.“
