We are a member of the EU and NATO and our foreign policy must be within these frameworks. This does not mean depersonalization, it means putting our national interest first. This was stated by the Secretary of the President Iliana Yotova on Foreign Policy Meglena Plugchieva in the program “Face to Face” on BTV.
In the last six years of continuous elections, continuous changes, caretaker governments, it has come to the point that the expertise of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was not used at all, but I must remind you that foreign policy is formed by parliament, and with these permanent new parliaments, we did not have a clearly formulated foreign policy. Only with the presidential institution is there continuity and consistency. Naturally, in this storm that is the world, peace is needed, non-involvement in any military conflict. This is also the position that President Yotova stands for - conducting negotiations, using diplomacy. She builds on President Radev's position and stands for it with her own profile - the policy of peace, she explained.
The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry and all those before it should have had a proactive position to support international efforts for peace and diplomacy, and not what we are currently seeing - a Peace Board. We should have remained in the role of an observer. It does not look like either a government in resignation or a caretaker government to take on such international commitments, Plugchieva pointed out.
The same is true with the agreement with Ukraine. The caretaker government is leaving without any coordination with the president, but was appointed by this president, trampling on all rules of coordination, of institutional dialogue. This shows not only ignorance of procedures, but also disrespect. The document is so weak and inadequate and is old - from 2024. During this period, we have had incredible dynamics, peace negotiations are underway, nothing has been updated, she stressed.
This caretaker government is the result of the Constitution crippled by the parliament, and accordingly, such a small choice was made, which was given to Yotova. The mistakes made by this caretaker government are attributed to Yotova, and this is incorrect, said the president's secretary Iliana Yotova.
According to her, the regular cabinet must correct this injustice.
