„The agreement with Ukraine was concluded in an opaque manner. No one knew in advance about these intentions of the caretaker cabinet.“. This was stated by the leader of the BSP list - UNITED LEFT in Lovech Nikolay Berievski on NovaNews. According to him, every government under the Constitution reports its activities to the National Assembly - neither the members of the parliament, nor the presidential institution, much less the Bulgarian citizens, were informed.
As specific concerns of the left, related to the text of the Agreement itself, Berievski pointed to the final provisions, which state that this is a 10-year political commitment. “How can a caretaker government with a horizon of about a month still make such long-term commitments, without any sanction from anyone?“, he asked and added that Bulgaria also undertakes to deliver gratuitous military aid in the form of ammunition and equipment to Ukraine. The socialist stressed that an agreement between the defense ministries of the two countries from 2022 is cited as the basis for this, and on our side it was signed by Dimitar Stoyanov, now the leader of the list of the new political project. According to him, the entire visit of the caretaker cabinet to Ukraine is most likely a crisis PR of the caretaker prime minister.
Asked to comment on the war in Ukraine, Berievski said that the BSP has repeatedly called for sitting at the negotiating table in order to achieve lasting and sustainable peace. When asked whether to demand the lifting of sanctions against Russia regarding energy sources, the socialist explained that many countries are already talking about this, including the United States, and it has become clear that with 20 packages of sanctions, the desired goals have not been achieved.
