The Regional Directorate for Food Safety – Veliko Tarnovo, uncovered an illegal slaughterhouse in the town of Debelets. During a surprise inspection on a signal, the violators were caught during slaughter.
The inspectors found over 10 tons of chilled and frozen meat without identification and accompanying documents. Over 10 slaughtered cattle were found in a cold storage room, and five other lambs were in the process of slaughter. During the inspection, another chamber with frozen cattle was discovered. The meat will be sent for destruction in a rendering plant.
The illegal activity was carried out in a building of a former TKZS. A livestock breeding facility was registered there, which was placed under prohibition last week due to the detection of animals without ear tags and of unclear origin. The owner will be charged with administrative violations.
Economic Police officers were called to the scene. Information on the case was also passed on to the Prosecutor's Office for the initiation of pre-trial proceedings. The checks and procedural actions on the case continue.
