In the country, we will vote with machines in 9354 polling stations, and in 2641 - only with paper ballots, said the Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Kamelia Neykova during the meeting in the building at “Dondukov“ 2 between President Iliana Yotova and the institutions responsible for the conduct of the early parliamentary elections.
There will be one machine in each polling station, there will be 172 mobile polling stations, and about 11,650 with video surveillance, said Neykova.
According to the Chairperson of the CEC, the preparation for the elections in the country is proceeding within the statutory deadlines. The CEC is in continuous operation. These will be our 11th national elections since 2021, Neykova said, adding that they also have over 170 partial votes.
For these elections, the CEC is much more uncompromising in terms of phenomena that were observed in previous elections, Neykova said. One of them is the mass replacement of members of section election commissions (SECs) by parliamentaryly represented formations. This time, the CEC categorically prohibited such replacements without a legal basis. Very often, the reason given was that the person no longer wanted to be a member of the SIC, but this time there must be a personally signed application, Neykova explained.
We are conducting an inspection, and we have already taken action against people who were found to have committed violations in previous elections, especially those who entered the pages of the constitutional case related to the contestation of the election results. The CEC has given instructions to release people who were proposed and appointed as members of the SIC in Belitsa and Gabrovnitsa, added Kamelia Neykova.
She said that after Easter, the installation of voting machines in the country will begin.
Deputy Chairperson of the CEC Rositsa Mateva noted that in the coming days, the regional election commissions will conduct training for the SIC.
