The application for digital tickets and cards for the Sofia Municipality's public transport is in an advanced stage of development and is about to be released for mass use very soon. This was announced by Gergin Borisov - municipal councilor from "Save Sofia". The municipality has been working on this application since November 2025 after the reform proposed by "Save Sofia" for the complete digitalization of transport documents in Sofia was adopted at the end of it. “This is the largest reform in the digitalization sector since the beginning of the mandate“, Borisov specified.
“With this application, Sofia will be a leader in digitalized mobility“, Borisov said and recalled that the reform he introduced allows various mobility services to be integrated through the application - from bicycle rental systems, to intercity buses and trains, to car-sharing applications.
“With this reform, we ensured that Sofia is ready for the introduction of the single transport document that the National Assembly created a few weeks ago, adopting the Public Transport Act“, Borisov also said.
“The Android application is now completely ready and can be used to load, renew and add all transport documents to our virtual wallets“, Borisov explained. For devices running Apple's iOS, there is still a technical challenge. “The main problem remains the certification by Apple - the application works and allows loading physical cards, but virtualization will be possible only after this process is completed.“
In conclusion, he expressed confidence that the project will reach the necessary level: “I am convinced that with joint efforts we will make the application not only functional, but also beautiful - the one that Sofia deserves.“
