Peter Magyar will not be the complete opposite of Viktor Orban. This was commented on in the “Interview in NOVA News” by the international observer and former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Milen Keremedchiev.
“By attracting so many voters to the Fidesz party, he entered Orban's rhetoric. At the moment, he does not have a policy of opening the borders. He is again against the quota distribution of migrants”, commented Keremedchiev.
According to him, the Hungarians want to have closer relations with the European institutions, but to preserve their values.
Keremedchiev also commented that the Fidesz party has been destroyed from the inside out. Keremedchiev recalled that Peter Magyar had been part of it for years and knew the mechanisms by which it worked.
„Magyar took away the functions of Fidesz in this election campaign. He first relied entirely on anti-corruption rhetoric – something that Hungarians strongly recognize as a problem. Secondly, he went to every settlement, met with so many voters, so many potential voters and managed to break the strongholds of Fidesz, which were mostly in small settlements,” explained Keremedchiev.
Orban, for his part, has relied more on external factors. “He accused Magyar of introducing European ideologies, of almost destroying the state, of refugees coming in again. But the Hungarians did not recognize these external factors. Even the intervention of the United States, in the person of J.D. Vance, did not help. The Hungarians are a very conservative nation and do not accept external intervention - neither from Russia nor from the United States -,” commented the expert.
