Nearly 2,500 people sought medical help at the N. I. Pirogov University Hospital and Medical Center during the holidays and weekends around Easter. One fifth of them had to stay in the hospital for treatment, with over 70 children aged between 0 and 18 among those hospitalized. The teams in the emergency rooms for adults and children report heavy workloads throughout the period.
The specialists highlight the cases of 14 patients admitted to the hospital's Cardiology Intensive Care Unit, six of whom had heart attacks. The youngest patient with a heart attack is a 50-year-old man, and the oldest is a 71-year-old patient in serious condition. The teams of the Clinic of Nervous Diseases performed thrombolysis on stroke patients, thanks to which six people were saved. The work in the neurosurgery and traumatology clinics was also busy.
Many cases of seasonal traumatism and serious traffic accidents involving motorcycles were reported. As a result of these incidents, three motorcyclists were admitted to “Pirogov” with serious injuries. Pediatric specialists have raised the alarm about new cases of victims in scooter accidents, among which a young man aged 17 years and 9 months was among the injured children.
Over 310 children have passed through the pediatric emergency room. Of these, 15 were hospitalized due to pneumonia, bronchiolitis and viral infections. Severe cases not related to the use of food and alcohol during the holidays have been registered in Toxicology. The hospital's intensive care teams, including pediatric intensive care, have taken on the most serious medical cases from Sofia and the country.
