Vote-buying network busted in Varna, nearly 200,000 euros seized

A man who is a municipal councilor from Provadia also participated in it

Nearly 200,000 euros, distributed in envelopes and intended for vote-buying, were discovered during a Ministry of Interior operation in Varna. This was announced by the Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Interior Georgi Kandev in a post on social networks.

The amount was found during searches of four addresses in the city, along with lists containing personal data of citizens.

According to the investigation, this is an organized criminal group that built a vote-buying network on the eve of the elections. A man who is a municipal councilor from Provadia also participated in it.

The work on the case began at the beginning of the month. In just one day, 152 people were questioned for whom there is information that they received money to vote for a specific political force.

137 reports were drawn up on individuals for whom there is evidence of participation in election crimes.

Four people were detained. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case under the supervision of the prosecutor's office in Varna.
