New black record! BFSA seizes 36 tons of unfit food near Plovdiv

The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) has suspended the activities of a meat production and meat processing plant in the Plovdiv village of Radinovo after an inspection found numerous violations of hygiene requirements and meat without documents, food inspectors announced.

A total of almost 36 tons of various types of meat without traceability or with an expired shelf life were found in three refrigerators.

Of these, nearly 35 tons are directed for destruction. The other 1 ton of food is prohibited. Additional documents are expected to be submitted for it, news.bg specified.

Inspectors from the Central Directorate of the Bulgarian Food Safety Authority and the regional directorates in Sofia-city and Plovdiv have found poor sanitary, hygienic and technological condition of the building stock, technological equipment, cold storage rooms and the adjacent terrain.

There are non-working sinks and sterilizers along the entire technological route.

Some of the cold storage rooms are not used for their intended purpose. In others, a mixture of suitable and unsuitable food is stored.

The floor, walls and ceilings are heavily contaminated, metal surfaces are corroded.

The filter for personnel passage is not working and practically no disinfection is carried out.

The cutting room is dirty, the sink and sterilizer are not working.

The required temperature is not maintained.

There are torn seals on the doors of the refrigerators.

The inspectors have found a risk of secondary contamination during the movement of raw-dried products from one chamber to another.

The activities of the enterprise can be resumed after all violations are eliminated.
