Tagarev: There will be a new round of negotiations between Iran and the US

According to him, there is over 50% chance of reaching an agreement

The situation in the Middle East remains tense, but with opportunities for a diplomatic breakthrough. In the program “Offensive“ on Nova News, former Defense Minister Todor Tagarev expressed moderate optimism about the development of the conflict, mentioning a new round of negotiations between the US and Iran.

According to him, there is over 50% chance of reaching an agreement. Tagarev commented that a permanent solution is being sought for the Iranian nuclear program, which includes three key issues: its temporary limitation, the admission of international inspections and the fate of the already enriched uranium.

“On the first and third issues, there are signals from Iran that it is ready“, Tagarev pointed out, specifying that the main problem remains uranium enriched to high levels.

“This is a material from which a nuclear weapon can be created relatively quickly“, he added.

“Iran's military potential has been significantly weakened, but it has not been completely neutralized. There remains one part that can still strike. The larger goal, however, is economic pressure to change Tehran's behavior," Tagarev believes, stressing that the current situation is not beneficial to anyone, especially given the fluctuating oil prices.

Tagarev ruled out the possibility of a large-scale ground operation against Iran. According to him, any actions would be limited and with specific goals, without seeking to seize territory, as this would be risky.

The former minister also commented on the war in Ukraine, stressing the need for continued European financial support: "Ukraine needs such assistance. From a technological point of view, this is a completely different war with different means and tactics."
