Yotova on Sarafov's resignation: This should have happened a long time ago

The resignation of the acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov is the necessary, but only the first step

President Iliyana Yotova commented to the media on the resignation of the acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov. She attended the Media Summit of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which will be held in Sofia for the first time.

We remind you that this morning Sarafov's resignation was received by the prosecutor's office of the Supreme Judicial Council.

Yotova recalled that yesterday she announced that Sarafov's resignation would be his personal decision.

"The resignation of the acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov is the necessary, but only the first step. From now on, the responsibility lies with the National Assembly and I hope that with maximum consensus both the expired mandates will be overcome and a new SJC will be elected transparently - sufficiently authoritative, which will guarantee the transparency of all procedures from now on. Because this is the job and responsibility of politicians. And we, the Bulgarian citizens, want justice that guarantees fairness", said the president.

When asked if Sarafov's resignation was a belated move, Yotova replied:

"In my opinion, this should have happened a long time ago", said Yotova.
