Georgi Pirinski: The lack of a clear position has sunk the party

BSP cannot rely on old laurels, said the former Deputy Prime Minister and former Speaker of the National Assembly

"The inability of the BSP to prove that it categorically rejects the so-called oligarchic power, to offer clear and better answers to the specific questions of citizens led to its current situation, commented the former Deputy Prime Minister and former Speaker of the National Assembly Georgi Pirinski in the studio of "Denyat ON AIR".

Since you cannot defend a clear position of yours, how do you get out of a prolonged crisis, how do you combine a more competitive economy with a more representative democracy, what can you count on? On past laurels? ", he asked.

According to him, the main challenge facing the BSP was to clearly stand on the Constitution, as the main one that establishes clear rules.

"To try to prove that it is ready to defend these basic constitutional principles, while at the same time developing a social and economic alternative that gives people a better life. The BSP failed to prove that it is against the status quo and "for" a necessary alternative. The first collapse of confidence in the BSP was in 2021. In the previous elections, the party had 980 thousand votes, in the next ones in April 2021 - it fell to 480,000. After these results, the question arose - why did this happen. Then, in a moment of revelation, Ninova said that this happened because people saw them as part of the status quo, not of change," Pirinski added.
According to him, this impression has persisted over time and led to the moment when the BSP participated in a government with GERB and "DPS-New Beginning".

"Radev identified himself as a president who rejects corrupt power. He stated it consistently, categorically and convincingly enough. He invested this capital of public trust in what we have today as "Progressive Bulgaria". The first section in the coalition's program is about strengthening statehood. It says that we have institutional atrophy," the guest emphasized. The program also states that the consolidation of statehood cannot happen without public support.

"Strong civic participation is needed, but how is this proposed to be done? Through the SIGMA system - a system for integrated civic monitoring and analysis. This system should function with the government through a specialized unit in the administration. On the one hand, it is a mystery how this unit will function, but on the other hand, it seems to me that there is a replacement of the political problem with a technological solution. Here is the place for the BSP to show that it has its own version and its own answer on how to strengthen statehood," the former deputy prime minister also commented. Pirinski is categorical that the leading task of the BSP is the restoration of parliamentarism, in accordance with the requirements of the Constitution.

"Krum Zarkov has a clear mandate from Congress - he won the presidential seat with a clear advantage. He can continue the changes that he sees as necessary. The important thing is that serious support for him will be evident tomorrow," he concluded.
