The fifth unit of the "Kozloduy" NPP will be shut down for repairs and refueling with American fuel on May 9. This became clear during the annual report of the Nuclear Regulatory Agency.
The repairs are expected to be completed in mid-June and the next batch of cartridges manufactured by "Westinghouse" will be refueled.
A 4-year process of gradual transition to new nuclear fuel began in 2024.
In 2027, the entire active zone will be refueled with American fuel. For more than a year and a half, the fifth unit of the "Kozloduy" NPP has been works with both Russian and American fuel.
