“Sofia's rivers are not canals. They may have been treated like that for many years, but it's time to return them to the city and the people“, said Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev. His vision for the Vladaiska River envisages it transforming from a grey periphery into a social and green backbone of the capital, connecting neighborhoods instead of dividing them.
In his position, the mayor emphasizes that Vladaiska has been “invisible” for too long - a background under the bridges, past which we simply rush. The goal of the new vision is to breathe life into the heart of the city, turning the concrete riverbed into a space for people.
The change envisages a transformation of the banks: narrow sidewalks will become safe alleys by the water, and gray concrete will give way to areas for meetings, culture and relaxation. The idea is to turn the river into a place that makes us stop and stay, and not just pass by.
Vasil Terziev emphasizes that citizen participation is important for the direction of this change. “Your opinion is important. "5 minutes of your time today means a better urban environment tomorrow," the mayor is categorical.
