The Sofia Municipal Council (SOC) will vote on the opening of nearly 1200 parking spaces in inter-block spaces of various neighborhoods in Sofia. It is about improving 40 "mud spots" in the metropolitan areas "Krasna Polyana", "Serdika", "Ovcha Kupel" and "Triaditsa", which will be turned into parking lots.
The Chairman of the City Parliament Tsvetomir Petrov and the Mayor of "Krasna Polyana" Dimitar Petrov proposes that 16 points in the neighborhoods of the area be renovated, so that nearly 240 new parking spaces can be allocated on the muddy spaces.
The necessary funds for this amount to 1,544,921 euros.
"The construction of clearly defined parking zones is key to improving the inter-block spaces, regulating parking and improving the urban environment. Our priority is for Sofia to breathe more freely. Every car parked in the mud carries dust along our boulevards, which we all breathe. By opening these new, improved parking spaces, we are not only solving the parking problem, but also investing in the health of Sofia residents and in the aesthetic appearance of the neighborhoods," commented the chairman of the SOS Tsvetomir Petrov.
The chairman of the PP-DB group in the SOS Boyko Dimitrov, municipal councilors Stefan Spasov ("Spasi Sofia") and Vili Lilkov ("Sinya Sofia") together with the district mayors of "Ovcha Kupel" and "Triaditsa" - Angel Stefanov and Dimitar Bozhilov have proposals for opening over 700 new parking spaces.
Their proposal is for the neighborhoods "Ovcha Kupel 1", "Strelbishte" and "Gotse Delchev". For the "Ovcha Kupel" district, the improvement of 6 spaces is planned. This will cost a little over 630,000 euros.
The necessary investment for the improvement of the "mud points" in the "Triaditsa" area is worth 552,538 euros.
The municipal councilor from the PP-DB Dimitar Dimitrov and the mayor of the "Serdika" area Momchil Daskalov are also contributors to a report, which also envisages the construction of nearly 200 parking spaces in the area on 7 existing "mud points".
The total cost of the planned activities amounts to 481,823 euros.
The proposals were adopted by the Environment Committee, and the municipal councilors will give final approval on Thursday during the meeting of the Sofia Municipal Council.
