The MP from the "Progressive Bulgaria" formation Slavi Vassilev announced an acute financial crisis in the state budget during a television appearance on bTV. The political scientist expressed serious concerns about the real size of the deficit and signaled dubious financial transfers of state funds.
The MP categorically rejected the claims about financial stability and framing within the permitted European norms. "The state's budget situation is critical. We have received information that the budget deficit is not 3%, it is much higher", Slavi Vassilev told bTV. According to him, the treasury was left without buffers in the first months of the year. "By February, so much money had flowed out that there was no fat left. The budget is just a skeleton and skin," he added, recalling that a day earlier President Rumen Radev had also used the term "budget catastrophe".
As a specific example of the illegal spending of public resources, Vassilev pointed to a large-scale transfer in the state sector. "In February, a procurator - a man of Peevski and Borisov, transferred 120 million euros from VMZ - Sopot to "Montazhi", which is in DKK," explained the MP. He described the action as a classic scheme for abuse. "This money is practically flowing down the drain. This is a scheme to allow a large public resource to leak into certain pockets," the MP stressed, adding that the individuals involved "know what they did."
During the interview, Vassilev refused to comment on a remark by the leader of "Vazrazhdane" Kostadin Kostadinov that the speaker of parliament was elected with the votes of GERB and MRF. However, he criticized the behavior of the co-chairman of the PP Asen Vassilev in connection with the constitutional changes and his refusal to support the elimination of the so-called "home book" for the election of a caretaker prime minister. "If Asen Vassilev had a sense of political reality and had not remained in the past of the assembly, he would have understood that things have changed in Bulgaria," commented Slavi Vassilev. According to him, the home book no longer works and if Asen Vassilev does not change his position, he will be punished by his own voters.
