The payments approved in 2026 by the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works (MRDPW) to Sofia Municipality amount to 15,127,075 euros. The funds are for projects on the territory of Sofia, provided for financing under Art. 113 of the State Budget Act for 2025. Payments were accelerated in March and April, although some of the projects were completed in 2024 - 2025.

This was announced by the press center of Sofia Municipality.

„In two months, we have seen what it means for the state to work according to the rules, instead of using it for political pressure. This is not new money - these are funds for approved projects that Sofia has long completed or has made significant progress.” This is what the mayor of Sofia said about the initiated payments.

“We expect fairness and predictability from the next government, so that we can plan and work faster on projects that actually improve the quality of life in the capital.“, the mayor of Sofia also pointed out.

So far, for the period 2024-2026, a total of 22.3 million euros have been approved for Sofia Municipality projects, respectively: for 2024 - 2.8 million euros, for 2025 - 4.4 million euros. All payments made this year were at the municipality's requests, deposited in 2024 and 2025.

Among the larger sites for which funds were allocated this spring is ul. “Opalchenska“ – site completed last year in full scope in the section from “Todor Aleksandrov“ Blvd. to “Slivnitsa“ Blvd. A total of 5.8 million euros have been approved, of which 4.5 million euros in April 2026.

“Despite the delay in state funding, we managed to complete some key sites. In order to have predictability in the construction process, it is important that the funds arrive in accordance with the actual implementation. We expect a corresponding payment, which will allow us to plan the next projects more effectively,“ said Deputy Mayor for Construction Nikola Lyutov.

Financing has also been provided for the sewage system built last year on “Simeonovsko Shose“ Blvd.

For “Alexander Stamboliyski“ Blvd., which is being reconstructed together with the tram route in the section from Zapaden Park to “Konstantin Velichkov“ Blvd., 11.6 million euros out of a total of 23.4 million euros have been approved, with over 80% of the activities on the site being completed in 2025. Currently, the construction is in the final phase – the last layer of asphalt pavement is being laid between “Vardar“ Blvd. and “Konstantin Velichkov“ Blvd. Marking, finishing works on sidewalks and alley network, as well as landscaping are pending.

In March, the Sofia Municipality received over 8 million euros in delayed state funding, mainly directed towards sites in the areas of „Krasna Polyana“, „Pancharevo“, „Novi Iskar“, „Lozenets“, „Ovcha Kupel“ and „Bankya“.

Funds have been provided for projects for two streets in the „Ovcha Kupel“ area - – ul. „Prof. Nikola Milev“ and ul. „Sinyo Ezero“ (in the section from „Perunika“ Str. to „Grastniche“ Str. in „Gorna Banya“ district), as well as for the construction of a street from „Zaichar“ Str. to „Tsaribrodska“ Str. in „Vazrazhdane“ district.

Measures to increase energy efficiency were implemented in them. Funding is also expected for the expansion of a school and kindergarten, as well as for the construction of sports grounds and other facilities, said the mayor of the region Lilia Donkova.

Long-awaited projects for new street lighting are moving forward in the “Krasna Polyana“ district. Stamboliyski“ boulevard to “Rositsa“ market. Funds are also expected to be provided for the start of implementation.

In the „Studentski“ district, the construction of „Prof. Kiril Popov“ Str. in the „Malinova Dolina“ district is being financed, for which a project has already been prepared and a procedure for selecting a contractor has been announced. Funds have also been provided for a new bridge facility on „Todor Dzebarov“ Str. in the „Manastirski Livadi – East“ district („Triaditsa“ district), as well as for the expansion of 126 Primary School „P.
