Within 1 year, we will propose a change in the funding model in education. This was said on Nova TV by the relevant Minister, Prof. Georgi Valchev.
„Currently, the funding system is focused on the number of students. This makes teachers in smaller schools insecure and the salaries they receive are different”, commented Prof. Valchev.
In his words, this distorts the system and even the behavior of teachers. „In order to be able to receive funding, things like children who obviously do not speak Bulgarian receive a grade in Bulgarian and are transferred to a higher grade. If you remember, there was a horrific case years ago in a Plovdiv school, when the death of a child was covered up. And they even continued to write grades for him after his death in order to receive a subsidy. We have cases of absences not being recorded”, commented Prof. Valchev.
Prof. Valchev said that a change in the funding model will be proposed so that teachers can be calm about their status.
„And let's start receiving adequate information. Because by distorting it, we cannot outline what the problem is and look for its solutions”, said Prof. Valchev.
„We must continue the policy of increasing the salary of the Bulgarian teacher”, believes Prof. Valchev. Currently, about 18% of the total number of those involved in our education system are under 35 years old.
Also postponed for next year is the possible increase in benefits for students from 1st to 4th grade and from 8th grade, who now receive a one-time 153 euros.
The Union of Principals made a proposal to the Ministry of Education and Science to start the school year on Monday, September 14, not on the 15th, so that this day can be saved and given to a vacation.
„Yesterday the deadline for discussing this proposal of ours for the distribution of vacations during the next school year ended. We will see all reasonable proposals. We will comply. The Ministry of Education was not created as a structure to harass teachers, parents, students. On the contrary, everything that is reasonable and possible”, said Prof. Valchev.

“We will not turn the school into a barracks. These programs have existed in the Bulgarian school since 2017. These are 5 hours in the 10th grade, 5 hours in the 11th grade. You learn how to react in crisis situations. How a child should act in case of alarm”, explained Prof. Valchev.
“It is expanding in the direction of studying the traditions of the Bulgarian army, because these are some glorious pages from the Bulgarian past. At the same time, the tragedies that lead to military conflicts must also be shown. Not only should we rejoice in military victories, but we should also realize that war is, in principle, a tragedy, one of the greatest misfortunes," said Prof. Valchev.
