The new week in Bulgaria begins with dynamic and sharply divided weather, forecasters from the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology report (Source: weather.bg). Monday, August 24, 2026, will bring a combination of dangerous heat in some areas and powerful thunderstorms with a risk of hail in others.
Heat wave and maximum temperatures
During the day, the weather in the country will be mostly sunny and hot. Maximum temperatures in most of the country will reach values between 32° and 37°, with thermometers in the capital Sofia reading around 32°. According to the official bulletin of the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (Source: bta.bg), the atmospheric pressure will remain slightly higher than the average for the month.
Where will the storms and hail hit?
Around and after noon, a powerful development of cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds will begin over Western and Central Bulgaria. Meteorologists warn of the following phenomena:
Heavy Rain: Short but heavy rains are expected at many places in the western and central regions. Thunderstorms: Strong thunderstorm activity and localized storms are expected. Risk of hail: There are serious conditions for hail in individual areas, where the processes will be extremely intense.In the eastern half of the country, the weather will remain stable, with a moderate east-southeast wind blowing there.
Forecast for the Black Sea Coast and the mountains
On the Black Sea Coast: The weather will be mostly sunny and extremely pleasant for tourism. Maximum temperatures will vary between 26° and 30°, and the sea temperature will be around 25°. Sea waves will be weak – about 2 points. In the mountains: The morning will start with sunshine, but in the afternoon cumulus clouds with short-term precipitation, thunderstorms and a risk of hail will develop in the massifs of the western half of the country (mainly the Rila-Rhodope region). The maximum temperature at 1200 meters will be around 26°, and at 2000 meters - nearly 18°.A gradual and smooth decrease in temperatures is expected in the coming days of the week, with the dynamics in the atmosphere intensifying around Wednesday.
