There is no need to speculate, Prime Minister Rumen Radev said at a press conference at the Council of Ministers in response to a question about Bulgaria's participation in the "Coalition of the Willing", which is meeting in Ukraine today on the occasion of the country's Independence Day. According to Radev, the Bulgarian ambassador was present at the events in Kiev on the occasion of Ukraine's Independence Day, BTA reports.
"You saw how many leaders there are in Ukraine. I think they are counted on no more than the fingers of both hands. This is not the entire European Union“, the Prime Minister said.
Radev also commented on the FREYA initiative, presented last month in Paris. According to him, at the moment, only nine countries from the European Union, as well as Great Britain, have joined it. "There is not a single country from Eastern Europe, not even Poland," said the Prime Minister. According to him, the initiative requires "serious financial resources," "serious technological development," and its parameters are "extremely unclear." Radev said that when a decision is reached on the initiative, it should be taken where it belongs - the Council of the European Union. "I think this is the normal way to proceed," he said, adding that sustainable initiatives are taken precisely in the formats of the European Union and NATO.
The Prime Minister recalled that Bulgaria is a member of the EU and NATO, and also pointed out the country's participation in the mine action group in the Black Sea together with Romania and Turkey. In his words, this is “entirely in the interest of freedom of navigation and safety of shipping in the Black Sea“, which directly affects the Bulgarian economy.
