The candidates for members of the Supreme Judicial Council from the prosecutors' quota are now clear - a total of 25 people. The last seven candidacies were published today, after the deadline for nominations expired yesterday.
Among the names, the one that makes the strongest impression is that of Siika Mileva, who was the spokesperson for the former Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev, informs from "Focus".
"Siika Mileva is a prosecutor in the Supreme Cassation Prosecutor's Office with over 22 years of legal experience. She began her professional career as an investigator, and later worked in the Specialized Prosecutor's Office and the Supreme Prosecutor's Office. In the period 2020-2023, she is the spokesperson for the Prosecutor General, gaining significant experience in communicating with the media and the public. She is now proposed as an elected member of the Supreme Judicial Council from the prosecutors' quota, with transparent personnel procedures, the professional development of magistrates and the independence of the prosecution service among her priorities," the reasons state.
Among other recognizable names is that of Marina Nenkova, whose resignation as Deputy City Prosecutor of Sofia was voted on four days ago. After her dismissal from the post, she was appointed as a regular prosecutor at the State Prosecutor's Office.
Nenkova has been a supervising prosecutor in several cases of high public interest. Among them is the investigation into Vasil Bozhkov's bribery of Vladislav Goranov and Boyko Borisov, which was terminated. Under her control are also the proceedings against the former leader of "We Continue the Change" Kiril Petkov and the co-chairman of "Yes, Bulgaria" Bozhidar Bozhanov.

The upcoming election of members of the SJC
We recall that the 5-year mandate of the current composition of the SJC expired in October 2022, but no new members have been elected to date. With a change in the Law on the Judiciary, it was decided that the SJC with an expired mandate cannot elect a titular prosecutor general, as well as chairmen of the Supreme Court of Cassation and the Supreme Administrative Court.
Earlier, the Minister of Justice Nikolay Naydenov defined the upcoming election of members of the SJC as a "turning point". He called on judges, prosecutors and investigators to make their conscious and free choice, which would emphasize that their independence is not just a fading text in the Basic Law.
"Do not succumb to pressure, do not become victims of petty calculations. The merchants of justice have no place in the temple of Themis. "Do not be afraid of giants in the judicial system, because they are dwarfs," the Minister of Justice also urged.
The Minister also pointed out that those who have regrouped in someone's investigative office should know that their activities do not go unnoticed and they are not forgotten. Naydenov announced that a contact form will be created on the website of the Ministry of Justice, through which any magistrate will be able to report attempts to influence their independent choice - with complete confidentiality of the sender.
