Kaloyan Metodiev: Rumen Radev chose a brightly colored political figure as acting prime minister

The problem of illegal drug and excise goods trafficking is a long-standing problem in Bulgaria

Rumen Radev chose a brightly colored political figure. I know how the president makes decisions. On Friday at 10:00 p.m., to announce his decision to choose Glavchev as a candidate for prime minister - it is certainly an agreement between Rumen Radev and GERB, not an impulsive decision. Political scientist Kaloyan Metodiev is convinced of this.

He added that the reason for the failure of the negotiations for a regular cabinet between GERB and PP-DB was not politics, but the allocation of posts in the regulators.

"There was the Attorney General, the Prosecutor's Office and the regulators. The dog is "buried" there. That's why they didn't get along. GERB and DPS control 90% of the regulators, they had to share with PP-DB, who apparently made a series of mistakes. The collapse of moral principles, the undermining of the moral postulates they swore by, gave GERB and DPS a window to strike a final blow. We are witnessing the War of the Rose family," Metodiev believes.

In his words, the institutions in Bulgaria, which are used as "clubs", have become too many. "Security services, the NRA, the Prosecutor's Office. We see what interests they serve. Property mafias in the Prosecutor's Office, in the law enforcement agencies. A clear collapse of the security system in the country", commented Kaloyan Metodiev, noting that Bulgaria is not a normal European-type country.

„The formation of the official cabinet looks like a big Bulgarian socialist wedding. One kind, however, is somewhat displeased – PP-DB“, commented the journalist Asen Genov.

He advised not to lose sight of the big picture while engaging in micro-management.

„The problem with the illegal trafficking of drugs and excise goods is a long-standing problem in Bulgaria. We are really grasping at the names: Stoyanov, this one, that one, the chief secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a woman who is being transferred from one office to another (note: ed. Petya Bankova). The principle of separation of powers suffers. And in the office – the head of the Audit Chamber became the prime minister, the deputy of the general prosecutor became the minister of justice. The principle of separation of powers has been trampled before our eyes, Genov explained.

In his words, the biggest political force in Bulgaria is “They stole my election”. "To me, that's a harmful concept: the underlying narrative is that somebody is going to steal somebody's election. There is a controlled and manipulated vote, but with normal voter turnout and campaigns, it will not be so decisive," the journalist explained.
