„As Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces I want to assure you that resource insecurity, low social status, your personal equipment and armament – all these problems will gradually become history”. This is what the Head of State Rumen Radev promised to the military personnel from the training ground in Novo Selo. He spoke to the Bulgarian contingent of the Multinational Battle Group, which is on the territory of our country.
The Head of State and the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, visited the "Novo Selo" training ground, where they were greeted with a guard of honor by members of the Multinational Battle Group. The two got acquainted with the mission and activities of the formation, of which in October 2022 Italy assumed the role of a framework state. Mattarella is in Bulgaria at the invitation of Radev.
The Bulgarian army is still under conditions of lack of sufficient resources for combat training. You work in domestic and social conditions that are far from the necessity of what you do, admitted Rumen Radev.
The head of state highlighted the proposed salary increase for military personnel, which is supported by the parliamentary defense committee. According to the new changes, which are to be discussed in the plenary hall, from January 1, 2025, the minimum remuneration for the lowest position will be equal to the average national salary. The President expressed a commitment to improving working conditions and professional development in the military, emphasizing modernization initiatives, including through the use of innovative, low-budget solutions such as modified drones.
President Rumen Radev shared his experiences about the challenges related to equipment and uniforms in the army, emphasizing the importance of caring for servicemen and maintaining high morale. He emphasized that their work is essential not only for national but also for regional security and stability. Against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine, the president emphasized the need for intensive exchange and cooperation with allies to improve military science and operational art.
