The district mayors are currently working out a concrete proposal on how to implement the principle of financial decentralization in the Capital Municipality and how to keep more revenue in the district administrations. Deputy Mayor Ivan Vasilev announced. The goal is for more money to remain with the regions, the BNR specified.
"On the website of the Metropolitan Municipality, information is published with a breakdown of how the money of Sofia residents is spent, which is extremely important for transparency," noted the deputy mayor for finance at the final conference on the project "Development of fiscal decentralization and improvement of financial management at the local level in Bulgaria", organized by NSORB.
"We want our fellow citizens to know where their money is going – for transport, green environment, events, education. With its first budget, Mayor Terziev's team introduced civic participation – citizens of Sofia will say how to invest BGN 5.3 million. With this, we are testing the attitudes of the public, whether they want to participate in management, if so – we will develop relevant policies."
