The former acting Deputy Prime Minister for the management of European funds Atanas Pekanov used the social network to comment on Asen Vasilev's statement regarding the development of Plovdiv. Here is what Mr. Pekanov wrote:
Plovdiv will have a new city railway (overground metro) by 2026.
It is clear that there is a lot of lying during elections, but this stupidity gets to me more. Last Sunday, Asen Vassilev stood in front of the citizens of Plovdiv at the Roman Stadium and told them that he had included a project for a metro in Plovdiv (city railway) to the airport in the Recovery Plan (accordingly, it should be implemented by the summer of 2026). The conversation has also been uploaded to the party's page.
There is no such project in the Bulgarian Recovery and Sustainability Plan (which was developed in 2021 and approved in 2022) – does not exist. I have heard of such ideas from other people, they may be good, but they have always been only theoretical. There is no such project, no such funding. Asen Vasilev shows a beautiful visualization of a 30-second clip and promises that, based on this clip, construction can start next year (and apparently finish shortly after, because the projects on the PVU are until the summer of 2026).
What is the point of this lie? What is he wearing? How many votes does it have? How do we then convince people that not all are mascaras? Because people, deceived by these shiny videos, will believe and wait for something to be done. How do we then convince them that Europe is actually doing meaningful things for us? Well, after that, of course, we can always say that someone else is to blame, but let's not wonder why there is low voter turnout, skepticism, anti-European sentiments, etc.
