The leading candidate of the European People's Party (EPP) for the European elections Ursula von der Leyen and the leader of GERB Boyko Borisov were greeted with shouts "Victory" at the Ancient Theater in Plovdiv, reports from novini.bg.
She and EPP leader Manfred Weber are in town under the hills for the presentation of the GERB-SDS list for the Euro vote. The meeting with the assets and sympathizers of GERB-SDS is at the Ancient Theater. Earlier today, GERB leader Boyko Borisov welcomed them in the City under the hills. During the meeting about the main priorities and policies of the GERB-SDS Eurolist as part of the EPP family, the leader of the GERB-SDS Eurolist Rosen Zhelyazkov will speak.
The ancient theater in Plovdiv was filled with a huge number of supporters of GERB, who came earlier for the meeting with Boyko Borisov and Ursula von der Leyen. Everyone is holding up placards that read: "Not just a union. Our home" and "Ursula 2024".
Boyko Borisov invited the leaders of lists to the tribune and called on everyone to observe a minute of silence in memory of Hristo Botev and the heroes who died for the freedom of Bulgaria.
"Manfred Weber is our boss - we are one family. Ursula von der Leyen is our leading candidate. The two are together for the first time in Bulgaria, and this shows how important our country is in Central and Eastern Europe," he said.
Borisov recalled that Bulgaria has been an example of zero migration for years.
The GERB leader emphasized that Ursula von der Leyen and Manfred Weber are together for the first time in Bulgaria. “This shows how important our country is in Central and Eastern Europe. Bulgarians should know that thanks to you only Bulgaria received the same funds under the new budget after Great Britain left the EU. When the COVID crisis came and nobody knew what was coming against us, we did everything we could. I'm sure we saved many times more with what we did. Thanks for the fact that when GERB was in charge, Bulgaria struggled and absorbed between 98 and 99% of European funds. We had great ministers, we had Tomislav Donchev, great European commissioners," Borisov continued.
"Colleagues are protesting, but they don't know what. They want these 3 years of chaos to continue. While they play, the billions stay with us, because we have absorption between 1 and 4%", warned the leader of GERB on the occasion of the organized protests around the Ancient Theater in Plovdiv.
"I have heard so many incantations that I don't see how a government will happen after June 9",added the former prime minister.
He clarified that he does not allow the Kremlin to interfere in the Bulgarian Church.
"If you don't want chaos, you should vote number 22. Now you can play as much as you want. I wish you a good evening," Borisov concluded.
