The Metropolitan Mayor Vasil Terziev terminated the procedure for the restoration of the Monument to the First and Sixth Infantry Regiments in Sofia. The self-union order of the mayor contradicts the decision of the Metropolitan Municipal Council of 18.12.2014 to restore the monument.

This was reported on "Facebook" from the youth organization "Kuberov Voyn", attaching documents.

We remind you that the monument, dedicated to almost 3,000 Bulgarians who died in the wars for national unification, was finally demolished by the communists in 1979, as it propagated “monarcho-fascism”.

The political will for recovery has long been there – with several votes in the Metropolitan City Council, a decision was made to make this happen. Two competitions have been held so far, unfortunately without result, due to the “lack of a sufficiently good architectural project” or at least this is the official argument for stopping the contests.

On 15.05.2024, the third competition in a row was finally successful and won by studio “GEBUPLAN“ Ltd. headed by arch. Filipa Guchukova. Despite hundreds of positive opinions, civil approval and the decisions of the Metropolitan Municipal Council, Mayor Terziev single-handedly terminated this procedure as well, as is evident from the attached decision!
