The Mayor of Sofia Vasil Terziev has withdrawn his order to stop the project to restore the Memorial by the Sofia Iron Division, BTA reported .
Terziev announced this during his participation in a meeting of the Standing Committee on Culture, Science and Cultural Diversity of the Metropolitan Municipal Council, which is being held today.
On July 2, the mayor announced that he had decided to terminate the procedure for holding a competition for the restoration of the Soldier's Monument in the space in front of the National Palace of Culture. In his Facebook profile, Terziev then indicated that a new competition would be held.
In the competition for the restoration of the memorial of the First Infantry Sofia and Sixth Infantry Turnov Regiments of the First Infantry Sofia Division, as is the full name of the project, five proposals participated. They were examined by an 11-member jury, representatives of various organizations and institutions. According to the jury's assessment, the project of studio “Gebuplan“ EOOD was close enough to the assignment to cover the minimum points.
At the beginning of July, Terziev canceled the competition for the construction of the Memorial to the fallen soldiers of the First and Sixth Infantry Regiments. Later it became clear that he stopped the procedure in advance because of the expressed disagreement of the Ministry of Culture that it did not its experts participate.
A little earlier today at a working meeting organized by Vasil Terziev, the Chamber of Architects in Bulgaria (CAB), the Union of Architects in Bulgaria (SAB) and the Union of Bulgarian Artists (SBH) stated that a new architectural competition is needed for the Memorial at the NDK, to look for a modern solution in the context of the park composition.
Representatives of the three professional organizations were unanimous that the task of the canceled competition was not prepared professionally, which led to a poor result.
