The situation is currently under control, thanks to the good coordination between the Main Directorate “Fire Safety and Protection of the Population”, the regional administration, local government and military personnel. Coordination is very important in order to be able to purposefully use forces and means, to save resources and to have a reserve to react to subsequent developments in the situation.

This was stated by the Chief of Defense Admiral Emil Eftimov today, July 14, the press center of the Ministry of Defense reported. He was at the scene of the large fire that broke out in the area of the villages of Ivan Vazovo and Mihiltsi, Plovdiv region, together with the deputy commander of the 61st Stryam Mechanized Brigade, Colonel Dimo Gyuzhenov, who is coordinating the actions of a specialized field unit of the Ground Forces.

The army participated in extinguishing the fires in several places“, Admiral Eftimov said. He clarified: “Military personnel from the 61st Brigade are operating in this area, and helicopters from the “Krumovo“ air base. work in the area of Svilengrad. Coordination and appropriate resource allocation are very important. These are the criteria used to determine where helicopters should intervene. Priority for their use comes from “Fire safety and population protection”. We plan and coordinate with them, we help as much as we can, but with a clear distribution of responsibilities and resources”. He emphasized that the resource is expensive and should be used where it is most needed, critical and cannot be worked with other means.

„We keep the aircraft on duty for emergency rescue operations, if it is necessary to save human lives”, the head of defense was categorical. Admiral Eftimov noted that the efforts of all involved in extinguishing the fires in the country deserve admiration. “We have volunteers, good organization and the ability to react in the future as well”, he concluded.
