The main repair of the Danube bridge near Ruse continues with the removal of the first reinforced concrete panels. It is planned to dismantle 4th of the existing panels and install 4th new ones per day. Paving will also be carried out.
Demolition of waterproofing, dismantling of drains and existing lighting poles, demolition of the pavement console, as well as installation of a temporary safety fence have been completed so far.
During the second week of the facility's overhaul, part of the work was aimed at removing the pedestrian fence. It has an artistic value and its integrity must be preserved when it is dismantled so that it can be restored and re-installed on the facility after the repair is completed.
Construction works started on July 10, in a section with a length of about 200 m in the entrance lane to Bulgaria. The traffic in it is limited and the traffic flows regulated in the exit lane in the direction of Romania, which is not working and is regulated by signalmen. Construction activities are being carried out without stopping traffic and the facility will not be closed. The site is worked on daily for 10-12 hours a day, during the daylight hours. The work process is organized and carried out in such a way that the vehicles pass in stages in both directions in the non-working lane.
During the major repair of the facility, the maximum permissible width of passing vehicles is 2.75 m, and the total mass is up to 60 tons. Oversized vehicles do not pass.
Agency “Road infrastructure“ apologizes to the drivers and citizens of the city of Ruse, through whose territory the transit traffic for the Danube Bridge passes, for the inconvenience caused. We understand that the construction works and the change in the organization of traffic will cause inconvenience to both citizens and drivers, but undertaking the construction works is necessary to ensure safe travel on the bridge between Ruse and Giurgievo in the coming years.
In order to increase safety, the API works in constant coordination and close cooperation with the Border Police, the “Customs” Agency, the IA “Automotive Administration”, the municipality of Ruse and the Regional Administration of Ruse. The appeal to the drivers and residents of Ruse is to show understanding and patience, to drive carefully, at an appropriate speed, to strictly follow the traffic signals and not to undertake risky overtaking that could endanger the safety and lives of all travelers.
