The version of deliberate arson in the warehouses near Elin Pelin is on the agenda. This was stated by forensic scientist Ivan Savov on the air of “Hello, Bulgaria”.
“Yesterday, my first reflection on the subject was related to some accident or negligence on the part of the workers. After having conversations with people who are familiar with the matter, I was assured that this type of equipment is designed to have several degrees of protection. Not to mention that the pyrotechnic products themselves, which are not produced there, arrive ready and packaged, which protects them from external influences,” Savov also commented.
According to him, an inspection from a few months ago did not find any violations regarding safety in the warehouse.
“The purpose of such an act can be from business interests to personal relationships to a terrorist act”, added the expert.
He didn't rule out the possibility that there might still be people alive inside.
“Similar facilities are built for a special purpose. During the construction, measures are taken both to secure the explosives and for places where the personnel could hide”, concluded Savov.
There are different versions, but to speculate at this time is risky. These include ball lightning striking the warehouse, human factors, criminal negligence or intentional act. The state should know what is in it, the company is obliged to declare it. This is what he said on the air of ''Hello, Bulgaria" the security expert Milen Ivanov.
According to him, enough traces remain from such incidents to make an examination. "The term two tons of TNT sounds scary, but it would only be if they all exploded at the same time. Explosives in the warehouse are not flammable. Black or also called smoke powder - this is the main raw material for the production of fireworks. It burns slowly, can reproduce a loud explosion only in a closed space. If the other warehouse in the area is also affected, there will be a serious explosion. There is nothing else to do but wait and hope there are no new explosions," he said.
According to him, the law does not distinguish between ammunition, explosives and pyrotechnics - there are certain rules for storage and operation. "It is absolutely possible that someone neglected the safety rules. In such disasters, the area is first isolated from the outer border so that the homes do not become victims of marauders. Message "evacuate'' it is not enough, there must be an organization", explained Ivanov.
