The third mandate was given to the party with the best chance of forming a cabinet, and it was “There is such a people” (ITN), therefore the choice of the president was rational. This shows his desire to have a regular government. This is what the President's Secretary for Security and Defense Dimitar Stoyanov said on the air of BNT.
He added that during the consultations, ITN expressed a desire to talk with all parliamentary groups, as well as with independent MPs, which gave minimal hope for a government.
When asked when they expect ITN to return the mandate, Dimitar Stoyanov replied that the presidential institution hopes that this will happen in a “reasonable time”, such as within seven days.
„It would be difficult to form a government, but hope dies last”, added Stoyanov.
Regarding Delyan Peevski's accusations that President Radev has split the DPS, Dimitar Stoyanov replied that “space is in the way of a crooked rocket”.
Mr. Peevski tries to transfer the problem from the sick to the healthy head. There is no connection between the president and the split in the DPS. The problem is only in DPS. Let Peevski fix his situation in the party, he urged.
On the occasion of the frequent rumors that the head of state is preparing a political project, Stoyanov emphasized that at the moment Rumen Radev does not have a party, nor does he have a political project, but specified that Bulgarian society urgently needs an alternative to the political scene and Rumen Radev would be one such alternative.
It also became clear from his words that the president will strictly adhere to the Constitution and will appoint a caretaker government by virtue of the recent changes to the basic law, which the Constitutional Court did not reject.
The President will do what is written in the Constitution to elect a caretaker government. The decision of the Constitutional Court is that this procedure remains for a caretaker government, for which no one will bear political responsibility. So if the third term is unsuccessful, the procedure is clear – conversations with each of the candidates for caretaker prime minister. From the abbreviated home book, the president will make his choice. Raya Nazaryan is also an option, explained Stoyanov.
At the end of the conversation, Dimitar Stoyanov specified that the presidency wishes to purchase aircraft firefighting equipment, but does not consider it appropriate to include this equipment in the composition of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as the Air Force has prepared teams for such purposes , while in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, such people will still have to be trained.
