The second caretaker government with Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev must be sworn in before the National Assembly today, after the head of state Rumen Radev issued a decree earlier that day, dariknews.bg reported.
The new old acting prime minister presented his cabinet on August 26 at “Dondukov 2” and received the approval of the head of state, who only a week ago refused to accept the government proposed by Gorica Grancharova because of the participation in it of Kalin Stoyanov as interior minister.
This time, Glavchev, who himself emphasized that he formed this cabinet in cooperation with President Radev, did not make this mistake, and Stoyanov's place will be taken by Atanas Ilkov, who is a career police officer.
In addition to this change, there are two more new faces in the government. The first one belongs to the former Deputy Foreign Minister Ivan Kondov, who heads the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This change was fully expected. Until now, this post was performed by the prime minister himself, but due to the complicated geopolitical situation – “the two wars of South and North of us“, as well as the important tasks related to our European path, such as the full integration in Schengen and other important structures and organizations, the post should be taken by a diplomat.
The third shift is that of Transport Minister Georgi Gvozdeikov. She was motivated by Glavchev with the series of incidents in recent weeks in BDZ. The caretaker prime minister focused on Krasimira Stoyanova. “Each minister is responsible for the situation in his department”, Glavchev explained and emphasized that there should be no political vacillation, especially in an official cabinet.
The caretaker prime minister also rearranged the priorities of his work. Without neglecting the upcoming early parliamentary elections, which should be held on October 27, he stated that the most important thing is to solve the current problems of the Bulgarian citizens. “Improving the lives of Bulgarian citizens is priority number one. This is how I would rearrange them. Regardless of the fact that we are an official government, the state cannot remain on pause and work must be done so that Bulgarian citizens can live better, Glavchev emphasized.
An important task, which the new old caretaker prime minister must decide by the end of the week, is the nomination of a candidate for Bulgarian European Commissioner. Regarding the nomination, Glavchev intends from August 27 “to enter into communication with the people's representatives and they will give their proposals”, which will be considered by the Council of Ministers. “I think we will make a good decision”, he also said.
The political reactions were not long after the announcement of the composition of the official cabinet.
PP-DB stated that they do not trust Atanas Ilkov. The coalition believes that the elections will again be held by Boyko Borisov and Delyan Peevski.
The interim chairman of the BSP Atanas Zafirov said that he expects a more active foreign policy from Ivan Kondov.
Tsoncho Ganev from “Vazrazhdane“ was succinct: The new government is like the old one.
