There will be a limited volume of changes in the leadership of the regional directorates of the Ministry of Internal Affairs where there are deteriorated results. This is what he explained in "The Day Begins" acting interior minister Atanas Ilkov.

He announced that next week there will be a meeting with the regional directors regarding the preparation of the upcoming elections. When asked if there will be changes in the system and requested resignations, the interior minister said:

"We made a few changes. There will not be a large number of changes of directors of regional directorates, even if there are, they will be limited in order not to create additional stress in the system. There will be changes based on where we are underperforming.

Ilkov did not specify which directorates are in question, but added that there will not be many.

There will be an increased police presence on the day of reflection and on election day, confirmed Atanas Ilkov.

"The responsibilities to which I and my colleagues are personally placed are extremely large. Society's expectations are extremely high from us, especially to guarantee fair and transparent elections. This makes us very mobilized and I approach this process responsibly so that we can live up to the public's expectations of holding fair and transparent elections."

He pointed out that after taking office he made efforts to calm down the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

"Because there was indeed visible tension in her in view of the last weeks in the public space. The focus was constantly on the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This creates discomfort among colleagues. For me, it is important that they are mainly concentrated in their functional duties, our concern is to provide them with everything they need for this. The main task of the acting interior minister is to organize the conduct of the elections, however, other commitments cannot be left out of our hands. We are working at a great pace to improve the material and technical base - equipment, weapons, which is extremely important for them. I can say to every single colleague - until my last day as Minister of the Interior, I will make extremely great efforts to improve their working conditions and material and technical base."

Ilkov pointed out that there will be no Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs during the official cabinet, he will be appointed during the regular government.

He also commented on the security guard of the honorary chairman of the DPS, Ahmed Dogan, who was removed by the Ministry of the Interior and the National Security Service.
"From the position of the Ministry of the Interior, I can say that an investigation was carried out based on the report received by the Ministry of the Interior. Everything stated in the report was not confirmed. From our investigation, we have not identified any evidence that Mr. Dogan is at risk. On the basis of these data, the NSO assesses whether there is a reason to appoint security guards.
