Tsvetelina Penkova: I'm sorry that we missed the historic chance to get the Energy sector

Every sector is important, of course. I wish Mrs. Zaharieva success in the upcoming hearings, they will not be easy, said the MEP

For “Startups and Innovations“ and the missed historic chance for Bulgaria to receive an "Energy" department, commented Tsvetelina Penkova, First Vice-President of the Commission for Industry, Research and Energy to Desislava Mincheva on bTV.

In the show “This morning“ live from Strasbourg, six MEPs commented on the topic of Bulgaria's new portfolio in the European Commission. MEP Tsvetelina Penkova - president of the European Energy Fund and first deputy chairperson of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy in the European Parliament, who was one of the two nominations of the BSP for European Commissioner, expressed her opinion on Bulgaria's proposed department: “Each department is important, of course. I wish Ms. Zaharieva success in the upcoming hearings, they will not be easy. It really depends on us how the potential will be realized.“.

Penkova also commented on the topic of the real chance that Bulgaria had, namely to receive the most key and important department “Energy”, because of the serious expertise that our country has in terms of energy and a lot balanced energy mix, as well as the support received from leading countries such as Germany and France. European policy can influence electricity prices for consumers and industry. As a result of the missed chance, Bulgaria is in a situation where it has to fight for nuclear energy again, despite everything achieved in the previous mandate. “Many European governments changed their candidates for European Commissioner in order to obtain a more significant and important portfolio for them. I wanted to see Bulgaria do that too. I regret that we missed a political chance!“, said Tsvetelina Penkova.

The MEP is the deputy chairman of the most important committee that will ask questions of the Bulgarian European Commissioner, namely the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, and he emphasized that he expects Ms. Zaharieva to be exceptionally prepared.

We remind you, Penkova and her team were among the first initiators of European legislation for startups.

When asked whether the progressive alliance of socialists and democrats are following the developments in the Bulgarian Socialist Party, Penkova replied that the subject of the Unification on the Left is received positively by her fellow socialists and democrats within the European institutions. When asked how she herself accepts the new leadership of the BSP, she answered:

„Every union and every way forward is crowned with a desire for success and development, with this view we look forward. New and young people are the future of BSP”. Tsvetelina Penkova is also part of the leadership of the youth association, bearer of the beginning of the change and is convinced of the party's better results in the upcoming elections.
