Lyubomir Stefanov: Vanya Grigorova was late with the intention of creating a new political entity

The left in Bulgaria is not a real left, the political scientist believes

What is happening in the so-called "left“ is finding a job and getting into the headlines of a certain group of people who no one considers to be factors in politics in Bulgaria anymore. The process of unification and crystallization of the left is not promising so far.

This is what political scientist Lyubomir Stefanov told FOCUS.

In his words, the left in Bulgaria is not a real left, as it is not conceptualized as such. "It is not clear what the left is, why it is left, and who are the left-wing people to whom it speaks. And finally we come to the question of who should become an MP, which vitiates the whole idea. Therefore, I think that this unification may in essence be a good intention, but when it does not rest on a program, on specifics, on clear goals, but lives somewhere between the past and an unclear future, it brings its own problems”, commented the political scientist.

According to him, the attempts to include in the lists of "BSP – United Left“ of recognizable persons such as Evgeni Minchev and Assoc. Nataliya Kiselova is a clear reflection of the lack of essential self-determination. "Every single one of these candidates has a history and something to contribute. But when there is no overall structured narrative and everything seems to be sewn with white threads, things logically come to this end and it is not at all clear why they got together, commented Lyubomir Stefanov.

Vanya Grigorova's announced intention to create a new political entity, according to the political scientist, is late. "The purpose of Mrs. Grigorova remains unclear. If she wanted to participate in the election race, she should have remembered to do so a little earlier. It is also possible that her recognition and inclusion in the left-wing union did not happen, and therefore she, disappointed or else enraged that she has a niche to fill, gives voice to these ideas of hers. I don't know how this will end, but at this stage in these elections, she will not achieve the effect she is looking for, Stefanov believes.

He noted that three of the GERB leaders are mayors – in Smolyan, Burgas and Stara Zagora. Leader of the "DPS" list – A New Beginning“ also in Kardzhali is the mayor Erol Myumyun. "There is no problem with that – technically and legally it's fine, but it's too prosaic why it's done. I don't see them abandoning their mayoral seats, to which they are entitled for another three years, and becoming MPs. But let's say that it is a strategic move in depth”, commented the political scientist.

Lyubomir Stefanov stated that he does not imagine either Slavi Trifonov or Ahmed Dogan on the parliamentary bench. "If they were willing – many possibilities. If they really decided to be leaders from the first row, it can happen, but what would be the role of Stanislav Trifonov in the first row – the same as Ahmed Dogan's. It's a mystery to me. Trifonov becomes an analogue and media twin of Dogan. I don't understand the goals, I don't understand why now and why not two or three parliaments ago,”, he said.
