Burgas will be the first municipality in Bulgaria to build fast charging stations for electric cars that will be able to charge literally in minutes, no less than 4 cars at the same time.
This became possible after only the Municipality of Burgas accepted the idea of “ESO Charge” EAD to build site linear objects – publicly accessible charging points for electric vehicles on the territory of the municipality.
Today Burgas municipal councilors gave the green light to another pilot green project proposed by Dimitar Nikolov.
The changes in the energy law allowed the realization of the idea, as they provided an opportunity for the Energy System Operator - the state, which is the owner of all substations in the country, to allocate parking spaces near them where charging stations can be built fast charging stations.
At the moment, ESO does not own the streets, the parking lots, or the charging areas around the substations.
The first selected site next to the substation is on the street “St. Stambolov“, which is a transit route between Sofia, Burgas, Sozopol, Nessebar and the Northern Black Sea. According to the administration, those who own electric cars would prefer to charge their cars in a much shorter time - 4-5 times faster than standard stations. This will happen literally in minutes. The neighboring property to the substation is the parking lot that the municipality allocated behind the "Technopolis" store, but in order not to reduce the parking spaces of the residents of Burgas living nearby, green parking spaces will be provided on a grass joint in a new location, and there the energy system operator will build its infrastructure for these super fast charging stations.
This is an initiative between the state and the Municipality of Burgas, in which there is no private interest. "The energy system operator will also pay the municipality rent for these parking spaces. This can be multiplied as a successful initiative to build more fast charging stations next to other substations in the city.
The Municipality of Burgas will use discounts when charging cars owned by its structures – for example, the cars of the Social Patronage, those for serving people with disabilities, etc.," explained Nikolov.
