An elderly woman from Targovishte became a victim of a telephone scam, the Ministry of Interior's Office announced.
On January 27, the 82-year-old woman living alone was misled by a call to her landline.
Under the pretext of needing to provide assistance to the police, she gave 17,200 leva.
The fraud was carried out according to a scheme known to law enforcement agencies - the caller introduced himself as an inspector and explained that he and his colleagues were currently conducting an operation to arrest perpetrators of telephone fraud.
The case is under investigation.
