At least 30 billion leva are needed to rehabilitate the water transmission infrastructure in the country. The assessment of the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works was announced by the relevant Minister Ivan Ivanov, who inspected the drinking water treatment plant in Shumen, BNT specified.

He pointed out that purified water has been supplied to Shumen and four villages for several weeks.

Ivanov noted that the MRDPW is developing a new water strategy, since the old one expired in 2023. According to him, municipalities must have ready projects for the rehabilitation of depreciated water supply networks.

The ministry has started in an accelerated manner with the available funds - national budget and European funding.

"Just two weeks ago, some of the companies in the holding signed with "Environment". They will be financed with 1 billion leva - both for the water supply and the sewage network. The municipal program, which is financed through the budget, is an extremely serious mechanism. I appeal to local authorities to take advantage of it and apply for water supply and sanitation projects," said Ivanov.
