The Ministry of Finance finances activities related to transport, but does not finance personnel costs in relation to commercial companies whose sole owner of capital is the Sofia Municipality. This was said by Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova during a briefing on the strike of workers in Sofia's urban transport, reported by "Focus".
"It is the full commitment of the Mayor of Sofia Municipality to take the necessary actions and measures to determine and ensure the financing of the remuneration of workers in Sofia's urban transport", Minister Petkova also said.
"This can happen either by compensating and providing these funds at the expense of own revenues, or through transitional balances. According to the Sofia Municipality report as of March 31, 2025, the transitional balance is 638 million leva. Of these, 472 million are from local activities, and 166 million. leva are from state activities. If the mayor of Sofia Municipality wants, he could make such a restructuring in view of the fact that the Sofia Municipality does not have an adopted budget. Now is the time to hold negotiations and make the necessary decisions related to the remuneration of employees of Sofia City Transport," specified the Minister of Finance.
