We are optimistic about the convergence report and when we receive a positive assessment, we will come up with a number of measures to implement the principles of the law on the introduction of the euro. This was stated to journalists by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, quoted by BNT.
He thanked the National Assembly, which supported the declaration submitted by him and the Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank Dimitar Radev:
"Today, 171 members of parliament signed our position. This is more than the qualified majority that allows for constitutional changes and greater than what changed the Constitution. The pro-European majority in the National Assembly gives reason for optimism that society has matured and all efforts since 1997 and all governments since then, even the official ones of President Radev, have steadfastly followed the line that Bulgaria must complete its European integration".
The optimism regarding the convergence report comes because of a positive assessment of the medium-term fiscal structural program and data on the level of inflation, explained Zhelyazkov
"I would especially like to thank two people - first, Ivan Kostov for starting the process, but also because he has behaved in a leadership manner as a public figure and politician throughout the years. And to Boyko Borisov - not only for following this line of conduct for three terms, but also for now guaranteeing the support of the majority".
The Bulgarian government knows what it is doing, stated Rosen Zhelyazkov. After the release of the convergence report, the authorities will announce a number of measures and changes that should guarantee a smooth transition to the single European currency.
"We rely on Bulgarian business for this and will introduce mechanisms that will enable effective compliance with the legislation and prevent speculation and speculation".
