Оur coal-fired power plants will operate under a regime in which they will not be limited or stopped

Remember who made a commitment to a 40% reduction in emissions solely and exclusively from the energy sector - there is no other such thing and no other such commitment in Europe. And it is unknown why it was made. We managed to renegotiate this along two lines, Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov also commented

Our coal-fired power plants will continue to operate under a regime in which they will not have to be limited or stopped - this has been agreed with the European Commission, said Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov, quoted by BNR:
"Remember who made a commitment to a 40% reduction in emissions solely and exclusively from the energy sector - there is no other such thing and no other such commitment in Europe. And it is unknown why it was made. We managed to renegotiate this along two lines.

First of all - these 40% do not apply within one year, because you know that if the year is extremely cold, as was 2022, and there is extremely high consumption, then there is no way we can fulfill this thing. First of all, it should be considered an arithmetic average for 3 years.

Secondly - we avoided the process by which there would be a body, as was written, that would stop the power plants. Such a body will not exist," said Minister Zhecho Stankov, who is participating in an energy conference in Sofia.

At that conference, the Electricity System Operator presented data according to which in recent weeks renewable energy has had a share of 70% of all electricity production, and this share is expected to grow.
