Georgi Semerdzhiev is already in prison

The cassation instance considers that there are no grounds for adjusting the imposed sentences

A three-member panel of the Supreme Court of Cassation (SCC) upholds the decision of the Sofia Court of Appeal (SAC), by which Georgi Semerdzhiev was sentenced to 20 years in prison. The decision is final, BGNES reports.

Semerdzhiev was found guilty of causing the death of Hristina and Harriet in a crash on “Cherni Vrah” Boulevard in 2022.

Today, the SCC published its decision, following a notification from a prosecutor about actions taken to implement the sentence imposed on the defendant, which means that Semerdzhiev is already in prison.

Semerdzhiev is facing a total of 5 charges before the court. Among them – causing the fatal accident, driving under the influence of drugs and using a fake driver's license. According to the supreme judges, when determining the defendant's punishments for each of the five crimes committed, the available mitigating and aggravating circumstances were correctly and correctly taken into account for each of the acts. The cassation instance accepts that the appellate court demonstrated a balanced approach in the comprehensive assessment of the defendant's personality and the degree of public danger of the act, therefore there are no grounds for adjusting the determined punishments - neither for their reduction nor for their increase.
