The District Prosecutor's Office - Plovdiv has brought a doctor from a hospital in the city as a defendant on charges of causing the death of a 6-year-old boy as a result of medical negligence.
The case dates back to April 4, when the child was admitted to a medical institution in Plovdiv.
The accused P.M., working as a doctor - anesthesiologist and in an intensive care unit, has committed serious violations of good medical practice, the prosecutor's office said. According to the investigation, he did not make an adequate assessment of the child's condition, did not take into account his medical history and symptoms, and prescribed a higher than necessary dose of medication, which led to a fatal outcome.
The doctor has been charged with a crime of causing death due to negligent performance of professional duties related to an activity that is a source of increased danger.
Witnesses have been questioned in the case, a forensic medical examination has been prepared, and a complex forensic medical and additional toxicological examination is pending.
A preventive measure of "guarantee" in the amount of 3,000 leva has been imposed on the accused.
The investigation into the case continues under the supervision of the prosecutor's office.
