A joint specialized operation using the "wide-ranging control" method was carried out today by officers from the "Traffic Police" sector at the Directorate General of the Ministry of Internal Affairs – Plovdiv together with representatives of the regional structures of the Executive Agency "Automobile Administration" and the Agency "Road Infrastructure". The operation took place from 10 am to 3 pm at the 155th kilometer of the "Trakia" motorway in the direction of Stara Zagora.

The inspection is part of the measures implemented by the General Directorate "National Police" in connection with the increased traffic accidents, with an emphasis on trucks transporting goods.

By 2 p.m., over 60 heavy goods vehicles had passed through the checkpoint. The traffic police officers were checking the technical condition of the vehicles, as well as the drivers for their driving ability and use of alcohol or drugs.

"The aim of the action is the prevention of traffic accidents and increased control of the roads, which will continue during the summer season," said Inspector Stoyan Voivodov from the Plovdiv Traffic Police sector at the briefing.

For violations found, the traffic police officers issued 2 fines with a ticket and handed out 9 additional electronic tickets. A positive trend is that in 9 of the cases, drivers took advantage of the opportunity to immediately pay the fines through the mobile terminal devices available to the uniformed officers.

The inspectors from the Executive Agency "Automobile Administration" monitored the technical condition and documentation of the trucks. They issued 6 penalty orders for violation of the rest norm by the drivers, mostly citizens of Turkey. The fines, in the amount of between 300 and 500 leva, were paid immediately.

The checks through the specialized scale of the "Road Infrastructure" Agency did not record any overloaded heavy goods vehicles.

The action is part of a larger operation, which also includes increased control along the route from Turkey to Romania, with particular attention to the section from "Kapitan Andreevo" to the "Danube Bridge" border checkpoint. near Rousse.
