5 civil society organizations - the Civil Platform Stand Up.BG, the Federation of Consumers in Bulgaria, the Association “For Affordable and Quality Food”, the United Pensioners’ Unions, the youth association “Your Voice” - are starting an initiative for civil price control. This will happen through the Facebook page “Antispecula”, which will publish reports every week on the price increases of nearly 50 basic food products in the largest retail chains in the country. Citizens will be able to send signals about unfair trade practices, which will be publicly announced and highlighted.

We recall that the same organizations were behind the campaign to boycott supermarkets at the beginning of the year, which led to a significant drop in the turnover of food chains in the first days of the boycotts.

According to the organizers, the goal of the campaign is to prevent abuses in pricing by retailers through civil pressure, as well as the adoption of legislative measures against potential speculative practices.

On Friday, the civil organizations will present their legislative proposal - the “Anti-speculation” Law, with which they propose measures against speculative inflation and to control the prices of basic food products, essential goods and services, medicines, bank fees, petroleum products, mobile operators and prices 6 months before and 12 months after the introduction of the euro.
