Tasers block the muscles, not the central nervous system, experts explained

After the case with Yavor Georgiev in Varna, the Ministry of Interior announced that they are buying tactical vests to which body cameras can be attached. Uniformed officers will also receive a new model of tasers with which they can neutralize a dangerous person from a distance with electricity, Nova TV reported.

The electric shock weapon is a fairly light device that fires two needles to which very thin cables are attached. When the two needles are stuck in a person's skin, he is paralyzed for a few seconds. Then the police can safely make an arrest. The Ministry of Interior is equipped with two models of tasers, but the Ministry of Interior announced that they will now buy more units of a newer generation. The police will also have tactical vests.

With a shot with a taser, the aggressive person is neutralized in just a second. “The person is conscious all the time, because this device does not affect the central nervous system. He hears, sees everything, but cannot move”, explains Krum Stoimenov, Department of "Special Police Tactics", AMVR.

Despite the loud sound and stressful noise, the Taser is not life-threatening, they tell us at the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The current between the two needles only blocks the muscles. The effect of the Taser lasts 5 seconds. And in order for there to be muscle immobilization, it is necessary for the two needles to be at least 30 cm apart.

In order for a police officer to be able to handle the aid, he must go through training - 2 days of 8 hours, including 6 components. If he fails only 1 of them - he does not receive a permit to use it.

„Training can be in different places, mainly at the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, but also in individual structures”, explained Ivaylo Marinov, Department of "Special Police Tactics", AMVR.

„Now we are going to purchase new generation tasers. They are completely harmless to those against whom they are used”, emphasized Nikolay Nikolov, Director of the General Directorate "Gendarmerie" SOBT.

And with the new tasers, police officers will also be able to train in virtual reality. „There is an opportunity to make more shots. But for the new models – "The police officers must undergo training again," explained Marin Grigorov, "Special Police Tactics", AMVR.

And so that they have no excuse that the batteries of their cameras are exhausted, the uniformed officers will receive additional batteries. "Tactical vests will be purchased for the officers who will use body cameras. They will be attached to the tactical vest of each officer", said Nikolay Nikolov, Director of the General Directorate "Gendarmerie" SOBT.
