There is no direct military threat to Bulgaria as a result of the US strikes on Iran's nuclear sites. This was stated by Defense Minister Atanas Zapryanov after a working meeting on the situation in the Middle East.

"We measure the radiation background in our country every 4 hours and do not find any change, there is no reason to worry“, explained Defense Minister Atanas Zapryanov.

He assured that the Bulgarian authorities will continue to monitor the situation.

„We hope that the preventive strike that was carried out on Iran's nuclear sites will lead to a review of the behavior on the Iranian side and to proceed to a diplomatic solution to the issue of Iran's refusal to produce nuclear weapons. Bulgaria is a member of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, we would like Iran to abandon its nuclear program and reach a peaceful solution," Zapryanov explained.

Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov convened a working meeting regarding the situation in the Middle East, the government press service announced. It is attended by Defense Minister Atanas Zapryanov, Defense Chief Emil Eftimov, Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova, Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov, Economy and Industry Minister Petar Dilov, Interior Minister Daniel Mitov and representatives of the security services.

On Sunday, Bulgarian institutions called for de-escalation and dialogue regarding the situation in the Middle East, following the actions taken by the United States against nuclear installations on the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

We expect the permanent members of the UN Security Council to find the path to a constructive dialogue that would prevent the danger of a global catastrophe, said President Rumen Radev in a position distributed by the press secretariat of the head of state. He added that the escalation of military actions in the Middle East is extremely worrying.

The Council of Ministers indicated that there is currently no immediate threat to the security of our country. The government is in constant coordination with partners from the European Union and NATO.
