Veterinarian: The perimeter is cordoned off, but it is possible that the leopard has already left it

We don't even know if it is feeding right now. We have no proof of this

Dr. Mihail Vassilev from the Varna Zoo and two other colleagues were called to help search for the black leopard in the Shumen Plateau area.

The veterinarian was at the specific location where the animal was seen and filmed.

"There were no traces that would confirm for sure that the animal was there", he testified.

"We don't even know if it is feeding right now. We have no proof of this. The forest there, the area is very large. Such afforestation makes the situation with localization quite difficult," commented the veterinarian and reminded that even with thermal cameras they are unable to find the leopard's location.

The perimeter has been cordoned off, but it is possible that the leopard has already left it, Dr. Vassilev does not rule it out.

These are very energetic predators and if provoked, one does not know what decision they will make. We should not provoke them, experts advise. It is best to keep a distance, they recommend.

"Even when they are small, they can be very dangerous. It is good not to run away, not to shout at the animal. If possible, to report it immediately."
